What We Believe

Whilst what we as a Church believe is an important question, an even more important question for you is this - what do you believe?  In particular what do you believe about Jesus Christ? Why did He come, what did He teach, why did He die, and perhaps most importantly of all who was Jesus?  We hope with time to develop some pages on the website called 'Reasons For Faith.'  These pages will hopefully be a useful resource for Christians and a place for those interested in Christianity to find answers to questions and reasons for faith in Jesus Christ.

Scripture Alone - Christ Alone - Faith Alone.

As a congregation of the Free Church of Scotland, we are unequivocally committed to the historic Christian faith, as taught uniquely and fully in the Bible, the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments.

We acknowledge the Bible as God's inspired and infallible Word. We believe it is the “the only rule to direct us how we may glorify and enjoy God” so that in our worship we preach solely from the Word and sing “inspired materials of praise.”

At the heart of everything we do is our faith in Jesus Christ, true God and true man, the only Saviour.

We believe He died as a sacrifice for sin; he rose from the dead, rules over all, works in us by His Word and Spirit, and will come again in judgment.

We believe we can not earn our salvation, rather that salvation is through faith in Jesus Christ alone.

The church exists to tell the world this good news about Jesus. This faith we express in the historic statements of Christianity - the Apostles' Creed and the Nicene Creed - and in the Westminster Confession of Faith. We aim to provide an evangelical witness by biblically based preaching and teaching while trying to maintain an emphasis on contemporary Christianity in our life and witness.

We use the New International Version of the Bible and sing both the 1650 and the new version of the Psalter, which the Free Church produced some years ago.  The worship and witness of the Church is in the language of the people. We stand to sing and remain standing for the opening (brief) prayer.

Want to learn more?

One of the best ways to learn more about Jesus and what He means to us is to come along to one of our services (Sundays at 11am and 6.00pm), and you are welcome to stay for tea and coffee afterwards, and to have a chat about what was said in the service, or just get to know us better.
